Abiogen Pharma’s roots in the Italian pharmaceutical industry date back to 1917, when *Commendatore* Alfredo Gentili founded the *Istituto Galenico* (later known as *Istituto Gentili*). When the family business was sold to Merck Sharp & Dohme in 1997, Massimo Di Martino—the founder’s great-grandson—established the new company by re-acquiring certain assets.
